John,
Last week, during a special session, a bipartisan proposal to move Connecticut’s presidential primary date to the first Tuesday in April passed the legislature. Our new primary date will be April 2, 2024.
We want to offer a huge thank you to the Governor and the General Assembly for passing this bill!
Connecticut will now join New York and Rhode Island in holding its Presidential primary on the same date. This is a big win, giving Nutmeggers a greater voice in the choice of their party’s Presidential nominee.
For too many years, Connecticut voters have been short-changed by holding one of the latest primary dates in the nation when most of the decisions about the field of candidates in both major parties are already made.
With this date change, our state receives a higher priority for candidates and encourages greater participation from voters as they cast a primary ballot . It also gives us a 25% delegate boost in the National Convention; so in 2024, we will head to Chicago with 74 delegates! Connecticut Democrats will speak with a louder voice every four years as we play a bigger role in selecting our party’s future Presidential nominees.
Be sure to circle April 2, 2024 on your calendar to cast your Presidential primary ballot!
Best,
Your CT Dems
