Dear John,

Waffle House is an icon here in the South. On the highway, at rest stops, down the street, everyone recognizes the bright yellow sign.

But beyond the biscuits, there's a dark side to this multi-billion dollar company.

I shouldn't have to put my life on the line for poverty wages. Waffle House has refused to provide even basic protections because they think workers like me are disposable.

That's why we had a speakout last week -- to demand the company respect us, protect us, and PAY us. We need allies to stand with us: will you sign on in solidarity, John? [[link removed]]

Waffle House workers, and many others across the country at hospitals, coffee shops, factories, and movie sets, are FED UP and RISING UP to demand change. That's why we're launching a petition [[link removed]] with a powerful set of demands on Waffle House to take back what is rightfully ours: A workplace based on respect, dignity, and fair pay for everyone.

The in-store violence that many people hear about in the news or watch on viral TikTok videos is real.

The only safety training I received was a poster in the back that basically says, Don't be a hero, just give 'em what they want.

I remember one night an angry customer had a handgun in her waistband. She was cussing us out for taking too long with another customer who was throwing a fit.

I thought, What happens if she starts shooting? What happens if I get shot over someone else's dispute?

I shouldn't worry for my life every time I go to work. No one should.

That's why we're getting organized and speaking out to let Waffle House know: We're not backing down. Our demands are clear:

We demand 24/7 security at all stores.

We demand an end to unfair paycheck deductions.

And we demand a fair wage from our employer.
