John,
While MAGA Republicans’ games may make for good political theater, the stakes are quite high for everyday people.
Meanwhile, the House is scheduled to vote on a spending bill that could threaten our efforts to combat the climate crisis.
And, as early as next week, the House will consider funding bills that could cut affordable housing, food assistance for low-income people and families; cut child care assistance along with more than 50,000 Head Start slots, and kick more than 220,000 teachers from classrooms across the country.
House Republicans claim that we can’t afford to protect the most vulnerable among us. But these cruel cuts are not actually about reducing our deficit. They are really meant to pay for another round of tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations.
Donate today to fight back against right-wing draconian cuts that harm low-income children, families, and workers.

--DEBORAH'S EMAIL--
John,
This past weekend, we narrowly averted a government shutdown, and this is in no small part thanks to your activism.
Together, we directed thousands of letters and calls to members of Congress to fight back against hostage-taking by a small group of right-wing extremists who want to force draconian cuts on popular programs and push for harsh policies that criminalize vulnerable people. Instead, Congress passed a bipartisan stopgap spending bill over the weekend, keeping funding at current levels and rejecting, temporarily, the deep cuts the extremists demanded.
But, House Republicans have signaled that they still intend to cut billions of dollars from critical services through multiple spending bills. And those votes are expected to resume this week.
Extremists are putting forward appropriations bills that include drastic cuts to Head Start, K-12 education, need-based college financial aid, home heating and cooling, mental health services, and nutrition programs for low-income households. And, they are looking for even more cuts on top of those!
Fight back against drastic cuts that would impact millions of households nationwide. Rush a donation now.
If House extremists have their way, 50,000 Head Start slots could be eliminated. 224,000 teachers could be removed from classrooms. 4.7 million low-income people could see their access to healthy fruits and vegetables cut by more than half, and another 600,000 families with young children could be placed on WIC waiting lists. The federal college Work Study program would be eliminated, ending a vital leg up for 659,000 students.
But, the push for more cuts could also impact millions of families’ access to child care, housing assistance, energy assistance, and more.
Congressional Republicans claim we can’t afford to protect the most vulnerable among us. But these cruel cuts are not actually about reducing our deficit. They are really meant to pay for another round of tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations.
