It’s been obvious since the GOP took over the House that they have little to no interest in actually governing, instead opting for sound bites and sham investigations.
Thanks to a last-minute deal with Democrats, a shutdown was averted this time, but we will be on the brink of a shutdown again in 45 days.
Government shutdowns — and even the threat of them — have serious consequences, John.
People depend on the government for critical services, and any disruption or stoppage can upend people’s lives.
The GOP has proven they’re incapable of governing, which is why we recently launched our Flip the House Fund. Will you chip in to help Democrats retake the House in 2024?
A government shutdown means economic uncertainty and potentially hundreds of thousands of furloughed workers, but that’s not all:
It sends a signal to the rest of the world that the government of the United States is in complete disarray.
There could be disruptions to people receiving their Social Security benefits.
It could mean longer waits at airports without enough TSA agents.
Shutdowns mean fewer food safety and water quality protections.
Nutrition and food assistance programs could be paused — including those for children.
Military service members are working without pay.
National parks are closed.
The list goes on and on — but the thing to remember is that this is avoidable. The GOP is to blame, which is why we have to retake the House. Can you pitch in $25 to help do that?
The Republicans are the problem, John, and it’s long overdue that they’re held accountable.
