John,
You might've heard that Congress avoided a government shutdown this weekend by implementing a 45-day continuing resolution. This means our government and its employees remain operational for now, but the squabbling over the budget will continue. None of the fundamental issues that nearly led to a government shutdown were resolved, just postponed. How does this affect our environment?
Learn More at the Upcoming Campaign Call
Many of the budget resolutions are aimed at cutting funding for key agencies in charge of implementing the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which devotes nearly $370 billion to tackling climate change in our own communities. With the new November deadline to approve funding for the 2023 fiscal year, Congress will feel even more pressure to sacrifice the only opportunity to cut pollution and recover from climate emergencies. This cannot happen.
Join our Campaign Call
In light of these circumstances, we are holding an immediate campaign call to provide a status update on the IRA and discuss a mobilization strategy to protect it. Register now to join us on October 10, 2023, at 11 AM PT / 2 PM ET.
In our first Campaign Call to Defend the IRA, we’ll cover:
- What climate investments are in the Inflation Reduction Act
- Current and future threats to the IRA
- The current status of funding for environmental protections and programs
- Advocacy and legislative strategy
- How you can help!
RSVP to Defend the IRA
We are at a tipping point. The combined challenges of federal funding feuds and the pending status of our only line of defense against climate change will irrevocably impact our environment and our future. We must act as a unified force to get our government back to work without sacrificing vital climate funds provided by IRA.
We look forward to your participation in this crucial call.
In solidarity,
— The Dream.Org Team
