California Gov. Newsom appoints Sen. Feinstein's replacement

Gov. Gavin Newsom named longtime Democratic advisor and activist Laphonza Butler to fill Dianne Feinstein's chair in the Senate. Butler is currently the president of the pro-choice women's fundraising group EMILY's List and has advised Vice President Kamala Harris and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
