Sea Shepherd Conservation Society Co-Leading The 2023-2024 #STOPTHEGRIND Coalition
On Friday September 22, the ocean turned red after a “grind” used boats and jet skis to herd cetaceans into coves in the Faroe Islands. Local residents slaughtered the corralled pilot whales, white-sided dolphins and bottlenose dolphins in numbers that wildly exceed any possible human consumption, and the death is a slow and excruciating one. Sea Shepherd Conservation Society staff was on the ground in the Faroes leading the fight in the 2023-2024 #STOPTHEGRIND campaign. The campaign’s coalition is “a global coalition of organizations and individuals working together towards a simple mission: To end the inhumane and unnecessary killing of cetaceans (dolphins and whales) in the Faroe Islands.”

|
Our shared goal with Sea Shepherd Global, Shared Planet and the coalition is to bring an end to this senseless slaughter. Please take a moment to visit the coalition's web site, sign up for the newsletter, and support this campaign on social media. Together we can #STOPTHEGRIND.

Sea Shepherd Kicks off Operation Milagro X
The Seahorse entered the Zero Tolerance Area at 5:05pm EST on September 16th, 2023, officially kicking-off Operation Milagro X. Together with the Mexican Navy, Sea Shepherd protects the endangered Vaquita Porpoise by preventing the placement of the very illegal fishing gear that has brought the smallest cetacean to the edge of extinction. 2023 has seen a 90% reduction in illegal fishing activity, and our 2023 Vaquita Survey captured images of vaquita moms and their calves. Calves mean hope, and we begin Operation Milagro X with more determination, enthusiasm and commitment than ever. We hope to have *major* updates for you in October about the future of this long-running campaign to protect the most endangered marine mammal on earth!
Don't miss any news related to Milagro X and #STOPTHEGRIND by checking our official social networks in English and Spanish.

Get Involved!
Sea Shepherd will always be a grassroots movement, and we have many ways you can get more involved. Our Onshore Volunteer Crew is in communities across North American engaging people around our commitment to endangered marine wildlife. Activities include local events, grassroots fundraisers at local restaurants, beach and waterway clean-ups, and building awareness around ocean issues through distribution of Sea Shepherd materials at community forums like farmers markets, festivals and house parties. And our Direct Action Crew helps our captains and crews stay on the water protecting endangered marine wildlife from poachers and other threats. We can’t do this important work without YOU!
