Dear SPUC supporter
Abortion providers are again ramping up their attempts to decriminalise abortion – that is, remove it from the criminal law, and make it available on demand, potentially with no time limits.
They are using the cases of women who are being prosecuted for illegal late term abortions to make their case. The trial of Carla Foster was the first to come to public attention. Ms Foster, a mother from Staffordshire, was sentenced to imprisonment after it was found that she lied to abortion provider BPAS to obtain abortion drugs well past the legal limit for abortion. Her daughter Lily was born dead at 32-34 weeks’ gestation.
There are now several other cases before the courts. But what do these cases have in common? BPAS claim that there is a “concerted drive towards criminalising women suspected of ending a pregnancy”. This is nonsense. What these cases have in common is that they have happened since abortion giants like BPAS started sending women abortion drugs in the post, without proper checks.
Removing abortion from the criminal law won’t stop tragic cases like this. What needs to be removed is this policy which means women can obtain abortion pills without checks and take them over the legal limit.
That is why, at the SPUC National Conference, we launched a new campaign, Justice for Baby Lily ([link removed])
, calling for the end of the pills by post policy
We have produced a comprehensive new briefing, laying out the many ways that this policy has failed women and babies. Please read this briefing and familiarise yourself with the evidence.

If we are to end abortion, the first step is to end these DIY abortions. The first stage of this drive is a campaign calling on the Health Secretary to end this deadly policy. We have produced a postcard that makes it easy for people to send him a message. (We will also copy the postcard to the relevant minister in the devolved Governments, if this applies to you).
Please order copies of the postcard to distribute in your communities. We need thousands of postcards to send a clear message that this policy must end. It has failed women and failed babies like Lily. Please return all completed postcards to SPUC HQ by 30 November.

The abortion lobby are trying to use the deaths of baby Lily and the other babies killed by abortion pills to remove all restrictions on abortion. We must fight back and demand an end to the real culprit – the pills by post policy. Please help us to get justice for Lily and all the mothers and babies who have been failed by this deadly policy.
With kind regards,
Alithea Williams
Public Policy Manager
