Rep. Matt Gaetz Files Motion to Oust Speaker McCarthy
Hill: Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) on Monday moved to force a vote on ousting Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), following through with his pledge to do so after the Speaker put a “clean” continuing resolution (CR) to fund the government on the House floor. A vote on the motion to vacate the chair will have to be brought up within two legislative days. But it is likely that the House, rather than voting on the resolution itself, would first vote on some mechanism to kill or delay it, such as voting to table the resolution. Gaetz introduced the privileged resolution to boot McCarthy after the Speaker worked with Democrats to pass a “clean” continuing resolution hours before a government funding deadline ( Hill). Benny Johnson: Congressman Matt Gaetz files motion to vacate against House Speaker Kevin McCarthy ( X). Hugh Hewitt: If Gaetz succeeds, the entire political operation Speaker McCarthy built over years collapses. The 40 new House GOP members are instantly endangered as donors/volunteers flee. If former President Trump becomes president again, a new D majority will be waiting with new Articles of Impeachment thanks to Gaetz antics ( X)

Gavin Newsom Appoints Radical Abortion, Maryland Resident PAC President to Fill Dianne Feinstein’s Vacant California Seat
National Review: On Sunday night, California governor Gavin Newsom announced that he has picked Laphonza Butler, president of the pro-abortion political action committee EMILY’s List, to fill the Senate seat left vacant by the late Dianne Feinstein. Newsom’s appointment of Butler is equivalent to a Republican governor’s filling a Senate vacancy with the president of the NRA: It’s pleasing to the base and good for fundraising. It’s no secret, but one thing many people might not know is that EMILY’s List is not named after a woman; EMILY is an acronym for “Early Money Is Like Yeast” — it “makes the dough rise.” Politico reports that Newsom is “making his appointment without putting limitations or preconditions on his pick running for the seat in 2024,” but Butler could have an uphill battle in the California primary because she is a Maryland resident ( National Review). Guy Benson: “Butler currently lives in Maryland” — but she’s fanatically devoted to activism on behalf of unlimited abortion, so that’s what matters most ( X).

Donald Trump’s Fraud Trial Begins in NYC
They are trying to financially ruin Trump. Hill: Donald Trump’s fury was on full display Monday during the first day of his civil fraud trial, where he lambasted the judge overseeing the case outside of the courtroom and stared daggers into the attorney general investigating business practices involving some of his most famed properties. The former president’s frustration — and his counsels’ — was apparent throughout the day, encapsulated in stern glares and sometimes heated arguments between the parties and the judge. Trump also raged to the news media during a break in the hearing telling them that although he was not required to be there in person, he wanted to “watch this witch hunt myself” ( Hill). Reuters: Attorney General Letitia James is seeking at least $250 million in fines, a permanent ban against Trump and his sons Donald Jr and Eric from running businesses in New York and a five-year commercial real estate ban against Trump and the Trump Organization ( Reuters).

Judge in Trump’s Trial Smiles Directly into the Camera as Trumps Trial Begins
Daily Wire: The judge presiding over Donald Trump‘s civil fraud trial in New York City got blasted by the former president’s allies for flashing a smile in front of a camera before the proceeding got underway on Monday. When the camera panned to the front of the room, Judge Arthur Engoron appeared to take notice. He smiled, took off his glasses, and smiled again. Upon looking to the side, the judge shrugged before he returned his gaze to the camera and smiled once more. Trump previously spoke out against the charges ahead of his court appearance, slamming Engoron as a “rogue judge” ( Daily Wire). Citizen Free Press: The judge in Trump’s case smiles for his closeup. What an absolute clown show ( X). Liz Harrington: The judge is laughing? Absolutely disgusting! This commie will be overturned ( X)! Mollie Hemingway: The lengths Democrats are willing to go to destroy the republic and rule of law over their seething and obsessive hatred of one man and his supporters is terrifying to contemplate ( X).

Hundreds of Illegal Immigrants Live in Chicago Airports
Fox News: Hundreds of migrants live inside a shuttle bus center at Chicago O’Hare International Airport for weeks at a time as the city attempts to move them into shelters. Migrants are staying inside a shuttle bus center at O’Hare International Airport’s Terminal 1 where they share airport bathrooms and sleep on cardboard laid out on the floor. Vianney Marzullo, a volunteer at O’Hare, said the shuttle bus center was supposed to be a “stop-and-go place.” The migrants live behind a black curtain and a private company monitors their movements. The city is grappling with how to house the migrants long-term as it waits for more shelters to be built ( Fox News). HotAir: Many of the illegal immigrants are from Venezuela. At least 7.3 million have left that failed country, now the poster child for the destruction that happens to a once thriving nation when it spirals out of control into socialism ( HotAir).

Rep. Jamaal Bowman Keeps Digging Himself a Deeper Hole
Townhall: Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) has tried and largely failed to explain or justify his decision to pull a fire alarm in a Capitol Hill office building as Congress rushed to avert a federal government shutdown. Now, his desperation to put an end to criticism and push back on punishment for his conduct from House Republicans has taken a predictable but pathetic turn. Bowman’s office released a document titled “MESSAGING GUIDANCE: Supporting Congressman Jamaal Bowman After Accidental Fire Alarm” aimed at getting his fellow Capitol Hill Democrats behind him to defend what has become a clearly indefensible act. Scrambling to take the heat off of himself, Bowman’s office suggested Democrats in Congress asked about the situation choose from a list of “suggested talking points” to back up their colleague-under-fire ranging from the literally unbelievable to the utterly absurd. “I believe Congressman Bowman when he says this was an accident. Republicans need to instead focus their energy on the Nazi members of their party before anything else” ( Townhall). Of course, people did not take too kindly to the use of “nazi,” and Bowman issues another response. Spencer Brown: Bowman responds with another incompetent “explanation” in what has become an unmitigated disaster of a week for him and his office ( X).

Karine Jean-Pierre Claims GOP Wanting Additional Border Funds is a Political Stunt
Daily Wire: White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre claimed this week that attempts by House Republicans to get more funding to secure the southern border — in exchange from them approving funding Ukraine — was a political stunt. A reporter asked Jean-Pierre during the White House press conference on Monday about House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) saying that “he wants any additional funds for Ukraine tied to congressional action on border security.” She claimed that President Joe Biden “has delivered record funding” for Border Patrol and then demonized what she said were “extreme House Republicans” ( Daily Wire). Conservative War Machine: KJP calls House Republicans wanting funding to secure the southern border a “political stunt” ( X).

Pentagon Fearful of the Remaining Limited Budget for Ukraine Aid
Wall Street Journal: The Pentagon has more than $5 billion remaining in its coffers to provide weaponry and other security assistance to Ukraine after Congress passed a measure to keep the government open that didn’t include more funding for the war effort, Pentagon officials said. That is roughly the amount of weaponry the U.S. has sent to Ukraine from U.S. stockpiles since the beginning of March, or about 11% of the total $43.9 billion in security assistance the U.S. has sent since Russia’s February 2022 invasion. The ructions over funding for Ukraine come at a critical moment in the war as Kyiv’s army chips away at entrenched Russian positions in the south of the country as part of a counteroffensive to advance efforts to dislodge occupying forces ( Wall Street Journal).

Young French Citizens Believe in Restricting Airplane Travel to Four Flights in a Person’s Entire Lifetime
There are entire countries that rely on tourism to support their economy… France is one of them. Fox News: A new poll shows that a shocking number of French citizens support banning people from flying more than four times in their lives due to climate change. A poll from research firm Consumer Science and Analytics Institute found that 41% of citizens would support such a limit. That number rose to 59% support among 18-24-year-olds. The suggested limit, proposed by engineer Jean-Marc Jancovici, would apply to air travel for business and pleasure. The poll surveyed 1,010 French residents over the age of 18. It found that support for air travel restrictions was far higher among younger age groups. While a majority opposed the four-flight lifetime maximum, 64% of the respondents said they would be willing to limit their air travel in the near or medium term to combat climate change. Climate activists across the globe have pushed for wide-ranging restrictions aimed at reducing carbon emissions, from limiting car travel to banning plastic straws. In the U.S., President Biden’s administration has issued its own restrictions on gas-powered furnaces. It’s only the latest move from Democrats targeting home appliances ( Fox News).
