ON REP. BOWMAN OBSTRUCTING CONGRESS:
“Are any of us naïve enough to believe that [Representative Jamaal Bowman] believed that [pulling the fire alarm] would open the door? This is obviously an obstruction of Congress, he should be prosecuted just like anyone else who was at the Capitol, who tried to do this, should be prosecuted.”
“[ Bowman] knew what he was doing. He was trying to hold up the process. He was trying to obstruct Congress.”
ON THE THREATS TO REMOVE MCCARTHY AS SPEAKER:
“It’s ironic to me to think that [Representative Matt Gaetz] is upset that Kevin McCarthy used democratic votes to help pass a continuing resolution, yet he wants to go and do the same thing and use democratic votes in order to get Kevin McCarthy to vacate the chair.”
“Kevin McCarthy has done a great job as our speaker, we’ve made a lot of success, a lot of gains, and we need to continue on now.”
ON SUPPORTING A CONTINUING RESOLUTION:
“The worst thing that can happen is for us to continue this reckless spending that we have that has led to a $33 trillion debt, that has led to a $2.5 trillion budget deficit this year, that cannot continue…but a government shutdown is not the answer. Yes, it brings attention to [our debt crisis], and it needs attention brought to it, but at the same time we need to keep doing our work.”
