While there is nothing new under the sun, our thirty-sixth installment of the Erasmus Lecture may boast the most pessimistic-sounding title yet: The Desecration of Man.

Carl Trueman assures me that he will say a few happy things, to the extent that he can as a Brit. Nevertheless, his lecture promises to break new ground on a familiar topic: the still-unfolding consequences of the sexual revolution and what we can do to reverse its attendant desecration of the human person.

Eight years ago, we added a Poetry Reading to the annual Erasmus festivities—a fitting kickoff to our flagship program. This year, we happily welcome Catharine Savage Brosman as our eighth annual Erasmus poet. The reading will take place at the FIRST THINGS editorial office (9 East 40^th Street) on Sunday, October 29 at 5 p.m. Wine and cheese will be served.
