Power Grab #1: Eliminate the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

Congress created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau to hold Wall Street accountable after the big banks bankrupted millions of American families. As part of the process, it shielded the CFPB chief from unjustifiable removal in order to insulate the agency from special interests and political pressure.

Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell now want the Supreme Court to use an extreme legal theory to declare this structure unconstitutional and to take down the CFPB for good, ending the protections it offers to tens of millions of Americans.

And it looks like the Republican justices are willing to bend the rules to make it happen. Normally, judges aren’t supposed to hear cases where they’ve already written an opinion on an issue, but Brett Kavanaugh has not once but twice ruled against the CFPB when he was a lower court judge. We’ve called on him to recuse himself, but it looks like he cares more about gutting protections for consumers than about following the rules.

Power Grab #2: Gut Roe v. Wade

Fight back on March 4

24 hours after the Court hears the CFPB case, it will hear a case about a law that would shut down all but one abortion clinic in Louisiana.

The courts have already decided that abortion access is a constitutional right and just four years ago the Supreme Court decided that an identical law violated that right.

The only difference between that 2016 case and the one the justices will hear next Wednesday is the makeup of the bench. Two illegitimate Trump justices — including one who has been credibly accused of sexual assault by multiple women — are now in a position to overturn settled law and end Roe v. Wade as we know it.

Abortion needs to remain accessible to everyone, regardless of state or income. Rally with us to show we won’t be silent in the face of this attack on reproductive rights.
