I just wanted to say “thank you” – thank you to all of you for being with me on this journey, thank you for bearing with us on the flood of requests to donate, and a special thank you to those of you who have contributed to this campaign.
I fear that sometimes what matters gets lost in the flurry of emails, and this all feels like a fundraising arms race – a competition for who can rack up the most dollars to unleash a volley of attack ads.
Our entire political system can feel disconnected from people’s lives and instead seem like a game of “flipping seats” from one color to another, of two teams competing for power and fighting about who is in charge instead of fighting to improve people’s lives.
That’s why my favorite part of campaigning is knocking on neighbors’ doors and talking with them about what’s on their minds. This weekend, the topic of the narrowly averted (for now) government shutdown kept coming up.
Rep. David Schweikert was one of the 90 radical Republicans, the Chaos Caucus, who voted against the vast majority of Democrats and Republicans who had worked together to keep our government open – to keep paying our troops and providing essential services to seniors and students, and others. This is so at odds with the spirit of working together that defines the best of this district that it made me think that what this race really comes down to is Chaos vs. Community.
I hope you’ll take a minute and watch this video as a reminder of what this campaign is really all about.
