NEWS FROM POWER TO DECIDE
AbortionFinder’s Newest Feature
AbortionFinder.org ([link removed]) now includes the ability to filter by appointment availability so that users can limit their searches to providers with less than one week, under two weeks, and under three weeks until the next available appointment.
Abortion Finder is the most comprehensive directory of trusted (and verified) abortion service providers available. The site regularly updates a State-By-State Guide ([link removed]) on abortion laws; statewide and regional resources to assist with costs, travel, and more; and information on finding the nearest verified provider.
All information is private and confidential as we do not collect user data. We're committed to making sure that everyone who needs help finding an abortion can access one, no matter who they are or how they identify.
Rising to New Challenges: Our 2022 Annual Report
We’ve just published our 2022 Annual Report ([link removed] Power to Decide Annual Report.pdf) . Three highlights from the report:
* Millions visited our AbortionFinder ([link removed]) , the most comprehensive directory of trusted and verified abortion service providers and support resources in the US.
* We adopted a new mission statement that better reflects the work we have been doing in years ahead and serves as a guide to our work ahead.
* In 2022, our annual Thanks, Birth Control ([link removed]) campaign garnered 105 million impressions, 8,000 mentions of the hashtag, and 53.9 million engagements — a 116% increase in engagements year over year.
Our Newest Power Player
We’re committed to uplifting the many individuals championing reproductive well-being. This month’s Power Player is author Anna Gracia. Read her story ([link removed]) .
Access One Key Question Training Online NOW
Power to Decide’s One Key Question^® (OKQ) online training is an interactive training that helps providers start the conversation about if, when, and under what circumstances people want to get pregnant and have a child.
The notion behind OKQ is simple—it provides a framework for health care providers, social service providers, and champions to routinely ask: “Would You Like to Become Pregnant in the Next Year?” One Key Question meets people where they are, by offering four responses: Yes, No, Ok Either Way, Unsure. Client-centered and focused on understanding people’s goals and providing follow-up care based on the client’s response, whether that is for birth control, preconception health, prenatal care, or referral to other services, OKQ is a helpful tool to spark important conversations. It is non-judgmental and equally supports those who want to become pregnant, those who do not, and those who are ambivalent.

POLICY UPDATES
Federal Update
Congressional Appropriations Negotiations Continue
Over the weekend, Congress passed, and President Biden signed, a continuing resolution (CR) — a stopgap measure to keep the government funded at current levels through November 17, 2023. While a government shutdown was avoided for now, the House and Senate will need to finalize a year-long spending deal for fiscal year (FY) 2024 or another CR before the current one expires. A lot remains uncertain; that’s why now is a great opportunity to contact your representatives ([link removed]) and let them know they must fully fund programs like the Title X Program (Title X) and Teen Pregnancy Prevention (TPP) Program that give everyone the power to decide, if, when, and under what circumstances to get pregnant.
Federal Budget Process Underway for FY 2025
With the continuing resolution (CR) in place, it may be some time before Congress approves final funding for FY 2024, but the budgeting process for FY 2025 (which begins on October 1, 2024) has already begun. Every September, federal agencies submit their funding proposals to the White House to help craft the President’s budget request to Congress. This presents an opportunity for us to advocate for funding increases for programs, such as Title X and the TPP Program, that can improve reproductive well-being for all. Read Power to Decide’s FY 2025 budget request letter ([link removed]) to the White House Office of Management and Budget here, as it may be useful when you are advocating for these programs.
Advocating for the Reproductive Health Care of Our Servicemembers, Veterans, and their Families
This past month, Power to Decide joined other reproductive health and LGBTQ groups on the Hill to advocate for no copay contraceptive coverage for all servicemembers and their families, and against a number of anti-reproductive health and anti-trans provisions included in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and in appropriations bills. We hosted a press conference and met with numerous Hill offices over the course of three days, and the work continues. Please add your voice ([link removed]) by telling your members of Congress to ensure no copay contraceptive coverage for all servicemembers and their families, and to get out of the way of servicemembers and their families traveling for abortion care.
State Update
Abortion Now Available in Wisconsin
Last month, Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin announced ([link removed]) that they would resume providing abortion care on September 18. This comes after a Dane County Circuit Court judge ruled earlier ([link removed]) this summer that an 1849 law does not apply to consensual abortions. Clinics had halted offering abortions after the Dobbs decision, fearing enforcement of the 1849 law in question. The legal challenge is not over and is likely to be heard by the Wisconsin Supreme Court. We will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that AbortionFinder.org ([link removed]) reflects the latest.
THE POWER OF SUPPORTING
Did you know that more than 19 million women of reproductive age in the US live in contraceptive deserts? That’s why Power to Decide launched the Contraceptive Equity Initiative ([link removed]) to address barriers that leave these individuals without reasonable access to the full range of contraceptive methods.
Access to comprehensive contraceptive care ensures that everyone has the power to decide if, when, and under what circumstances to get pregnant and have a child.
The Contraceptive Equity Initiative ([link removed].) aims to address birth control access barriers by expanding research efforts, bolstering policy efforts regarding contraceptive access, and convening leaders from state and regional contraceptive access projects.
This work is only possible with support from our generous donors.
