Hours before a potential shutdown, the Senate passed a short-term funding deal on an 88-9 vote.

The deal includes a 45-day continuing resolution with disaster relief funds, an extension of a federal flood insurance program, and FAA reauthorization. It does not include U.S. aid for Ukraine.

** FTC files lawsuit against Amazon

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission filed a long-awaited antitrust lawsuit against Amazon. The FTC is asking the court to issue a permanent injunction forcing Amazon to stop its unlawful conduct, and sell some of its assets.

** Sen. Dianne Feinstein dies at 90

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the oldest member of Congress, died Thursday night at 90 years old. In recent years, Feinstein has suffered ill health that prompted calls for her to step down, which she consistently declined. She had an extended absence from office this year and, after six terms, announced she would not run for reelection.

Heavy rainfall in NYC and the surrounding area led Gov. Kathy Hochul to declare a state of emergency on Friday. Flash flooding has shut down subway lines, created pooling on major roadways, and forced many to find refuge on the top floors of their buildings.
