Did you see the news? California Governor Gavin Newsom appointed EMILYs List President Laphonza Butler to fill the late Sen. Dianne Feinstein's seat in the U.S. Senate. This is a historic moment: Laphonza will the first out LGBTQ+ Black person to ever serve in the body. Join us in wishing Laphonza congratulations on this groundbreaking achievement!

This is a huge step forward towards building a more inclusive government. As a mother, out lesbian and the only Black woman currently serving in the chamber, Laphonza will certainly be a champion for women, people of color and LGBTQ+ people in the U.S Senate. We need voices like hers in government now more than ever, and we know she will inspire countless others to see themselves in office.
