Friends and Comrades- Following the horrible shooting in Espanola on Thursday, Santa Fe DSA released the following statement on Instagram and X(formerly Twitter):

Santa Fe DSA stands in solidarity with activists from Española, as well as indigenous activists from New Mexico and beyond who peacefully spoke out on Thursday about the legacy of settler colonialism and demanded that the statue of Juan de Oñate not be reinstalled. We condemn the senseless and cruel attempt to silence their voices by a far right shooter from Albuquerque who injured an indigenous man. This type of right wing violence has been a consistent tool of suppression under settler colonial regimes throughout history

We cannot ignore that this is also part of a rising pattern of far right political violence in the United States, fueled by Donald Trump and the MAGA Republican movement. This movement has become explicit in its attacks on the democratic process and the freedoms of indigenous and Black people, LGBTQ people and women, and the entire multi-racial working class. This has extended to New Mexico, where right-wing militias have been on the rise, where the Trump campaign attempted to submit a slate of fake electors, and where Santa Fe resident John Eastman collaborated with the campaign’s attempts to overturn the results of other states.

We can only overpower this rise of fascist, violent, and anti-democratic behavior by building a multiracial working class movement that can overcome the corporate and reactionary forces of this country. We must address the injustices that indigenous people have faced over the last four centuries, and heal the wounds of settler colonialism that continue to oppress and exploit.

Canvassing for Castro!

With the election about a month away, it's more important than ever to come out and support Alma's bid for City Council. There are multiple canvasses this week, but we're hoping to really get people out for the Saturday canvass at Journey Montessori School.

You can RSVP for the Saturday canvass here.

The full schedule of canvasses this week can be found here.

Sustainability Hike

Join Santa Fe DSA member and Santa Fe Forest Coalition member Sam Hitt for a hike before our canvass Saturday to learn about our forest's sustainability and vulnerabilities to fires. Here's the message from Sam: Let’s assemble at the Black Canyon campground 9:30 am Saturday Oct 7. Suggest carpooling as parking at the trail head is limited. If the lot is full park at the group camping facility just before Black Canyon on the left. It’s a short walk from there. Do not park on the road as you will be ticketed. It’s about a two mile hike with moderate uphill and takes between two and three hours with stops. Bring water, hat, rain gear and sun protection.

DSA depends on support from ordinary members, rather than corporate funding or grants. As we ramp up our campaigns to take on the millionaire and billionaire class in New Mexico, any donations you can provide will go a long way.
