The role of media in educating and informing the public is critically important in these hyper-partisan, polarized and confusing times. Today’s media also faces an array of daunting challenges – the emergence of new technologies, the impact of social media, the use of disinformation campaigns and the abandonment by some of traditional commitments to the truth.

Through her work at CNN, Katelyn Polantz has seen these challenges while covering some of the most critical developments ever to face our country. Currently, Katelyn is one of CNN’s top reporters covering the criminal indictments of former president Donald Trump across the network’s platforms. Katelyn’s work has included coverage of presidential impeachments, the work of the January 6 House select committee, criminal prosecutions arising out of the Capitol riot, and investigations pursued by the last three prosecutors to serve as special counsel. This work also has given her a special vantage point to observe the functioning of the courts, as they are called upon to deal with a distinctive array of challenges to the existing legal order, as well as the interactions between the three branches of the federal government.

Polantz previously reported on Washington’s legal community for American Lawyer Magazine and the National Law Journal, and she covered the Supreme Court and the 2012 presidential election as a producer at PBS NewsHour.

Polantz grew up in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. She is an alumna of the University of Pittsburgh and its student newspaper, The Pitt News.
