Whether you’ve spoken out for pro-democracy laws and against voter suppression, or chipped in when you can, I want to thank you.

Hey,

It’s Maya — the new Deputy Executive Director of Fair Fight. I’m reaching out today for a few reasons:

  1. I want to introduce myself (hi! 👋),
  2. I want to thank you for all your support, and
  3. I want to give you an update on our election work.

I’m new to this role, but I’ve been on the Fair Fight team for the past year and a half. The work of protecting and expanding the freedom to vote is deeply important to me and my family, because some people who look like us — and who speak primarily Spanish — were effectively blocked from voting until 1975. It wasn’t until then (only two years before I was born!) that the Voting Rights Act was amended to protect language minorities. Dismantling that kind of disenfranchisement is the work of generations, and I’m honored to be a part of it.

In my time at Fair Fight, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful it is when supporters like you come together to help make elections freer and fairer. Whether you’ve spoken out for pro-democracy laws and against voter suppression, or chipped in when you can, I want to thank you. This pro-voter movement is stronger because of you.

Now, I also want to lay out exactly what’s at stake in the upcoming 2023 and 2024 election cycles and what Fair Fight’s doing to prepare. In this November’s state and local elections, voters have a say in a whole slate of issues that directly impact our families and our communities. And in next year’s election cycle, voters across the country will cast their ballots for our next president.

Less than six months from now, Georgians will be voting in the presidential primary election. And one year from now, they’ll be preparing to vote in the general election. There’s a lot of uncertainty about how next year’s election cycle will go, but what we know to be true is this: Georgia will be a key swing state, and Peach State voters could determine the outcome of the presidential election.

So right now, the Fair Fight team is putting the pedal to the metal to elect pro-democracy candidates up and down the ballot and guarantee that eligible voters can access the ballot box. I’m grateful for supporters like you who will be there every step of the way, making our voter education and mobilization efforts possible.

Stay tuned for future updates!

Thanks,

Maya
