This year, election-denying Republicans in state legislatures nationwide have been gearing up for the 2024 election by introducing a barrage of laws and restrictions that make it harder for Americans to vote:
❌ Purging state voter rolls; ❌ Reducing polling locations; ❌ Curbing access to mail-in voting; ❌ Implementing strict voter ID requirements; ❌ And intimidating election workers with increased scrutiny.
Congressional Democrats are fighting to pass two key bills that would block voter suppression bills in Republican-led states and expand voting rights for all: the Freedom to Vote Act and the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
If passed together, these historic bills would restore and modernize the full protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 – which the ultra-conservative Supreme Court gutted in a 2013 ruling that paved the way for unchecked Republican voter suppression.
