Dear Friends/Amigos,
This week in Washington was extra busy as I continued to advocate on behalf of YOU, my constituents in Florida's 27th District!
As Chairwoman of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I convened a hearing analyzing the very real threat the Chinese Communist Party poses to our hemisphere.
From trapping developing countries in unfair investment deals to building spy and military installations 90 miles off our shores, it is clear the United States must act now to stop China from invading our neighbors and threatening us from the South! More on the hearing below!
It is an honor to serve you in Congress, and please continue to call my office or visit my website to share your thoughts with me.
As always, I invite you to connect with me on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, to get the latest from Washington and from across our district.
Sincerely/Atentamente,
María Elvira Salazar
U.S. Representative (FL-27)

DEFENDING OUR HEMISPHERE FROM THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY!
|
|
This past week, I had the enormous privilege of convening a hearing in the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee on the danger China poses to the United States as close as 90 miles away.
The reality is—Communism is on our doorstep once again, and great power competition is back in the Western Hemisphere.
As China invades Latin America, President Biden’s foreign policy has marked a new, troubling era in American foreign policy towards the region: showing a welcoming embrace to nations who are allied with China while treating our allies with vindictiveness.
Officials from the State Department could not answer basic questions, from why President Biden has yet to visit South America even though Xi Jinping has been 8 times, to an explanation for why Vice President Kamala Harris attended the inauguration of the avowed socialist president of Honduras, Xiomara Castro.
To counteract the failures of the Biden Administration’s Latin America policy, I have introduced a monumental trade proposal, the Americas Act, to reassert American economic supremacy in the Western Hemisphere by putting the American economy first before Chinese interests.
This bill will help us win the trade war with China.
