SPOTLIGHT

Andrew Votes To Avoid Government Shutdown

Yesterday, Andrew voted to pass the Continuing Appropriations Act, a short term funding bill that will keep the Federal Government open for 45 days during which time Congress will work to negotiate and pass the remaining appropriations bills for Fiscal Year 2024. Andrew said in a statement following the vote, "This allows us to continue doing our job to secure the southern border while cutting back wasteful government spending which has damaged our economy. A shutdown would cause our troops, border patrol agents, and tens of thousands of federal employees living on Long Island to go without pay. It would delay the delivery of certain benefits and other government services the American people rely on. It would endanger our national security and damage our economy. I voted for this bill to fulfill my commitment to my constituents and my duty as a Member of Congress." With this vote, and the legislation's subsequent passage in the Senate, government services and resources will not be impacted while Congress continues the appropriations process.

WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02

Recognizing Our Female Servicemembers & Veterans

Yesterday, the Long Island Air Force Association hosted a commemorative medal ceremony in Patchogue honoring women's military service. Over 30 veterans and active members of the military were recognized. Andrew provided Congressional Certificates of Recognition for all honorees. Our servicemembers and veterans have given so much for our nation and deserve our thanks and appreciation.

Chamber of Commerce Meetings in Copiague and Bay Shore

This week, both Bay Shore and Copiague Chambers of Commerce hosted meetings where Long Islanders expressed their concerns over different issues in our communities and school districts. While Andrew was in Washington, D.C. for votes, representatives from his office attended to hear constituent concerns and share updates with the community. The Suffolk County Police Department did a great job providing safety updates and being a resource for constituents of NY-02.

KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS

Andrew Leads Fight To Prevent Lapse In Flood Insurance

This week, Andrew introduced legislation to extend the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) to ensure continued coverage for NFIP policyholders and allow new policies to be written while the government works through appropriations bills and toward a long-term reauthorization and reform of the NFIP. Funding for NFIP was ultimately included in the short term funding bill which passed the House and Senate this weekend. Whether it’s Superstorm Sandy or flash flooding due to rain like we saw this week, Andrew knows that flood insurance is essential for Long Island homeowners and will always fight to protect it.

Andrew Questions SEC Chairman About Overreach

This week, during a Financial Services Committee hearing, Andrew questioned Chairman Gary Gensler about the SEC's overreach in imposing duplicative cyber disclosure requirements for public companies in direct contradiction with the congressionally mandated Cyber Incident Reporting for Critical Infrastructure Act (CIRCIA). The SEC's failure to harmonize with existing regulations or wait for the completion of DHS and CISA's imminent rulemaking not only places an undue burden on companies but also puts those companies at greater risk for attack. Watch his line of questioning here.

Andrew Fights To Restore Due Process For Our Police Officers

Andrew stands with the men and women of law enforcement. That's why he recently introduced legislation to restore due process rights to Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers. The Protecting Our Nation’s Capital Emergency Act would amend current DC law with respect to revoking prohibitions on union bargaining in matters of officer discipline and the timeline under which such discipline will be carried out. These rights were recently stripped from MPD officers. In addition, this bill creates a more definitive timeline for when disciplinary action can be carried out, eliminating uncertainty or the prolonging of this process as a means of additional punishment. Police officers protect and serve our communities and anti-police policies like those imposed in DC and New York cannot be allowed to stand. Our officers deserve swift due process in any disciplinary matters.
