Hi John,
Voting starts on Monday and below are ten reasons to vote for
National this year. But first, a quick request. Did you miss the
chance to help out this year? If you want to deliver a few letters,
send me a message. We'd love the help.
Tackle the cost of living.
National will let you keep more of what you earn, with tax relief for
the average couple of $100 per pay, and up to $250 if you have young
children.
End wasteful government spending. Labour are
spending $61bn per year more than six years ago and this is directly
contributing to inflation, driving up debt to $100bn (it was only
$5.5bn four years ago), and means we have less money to spend on
health, education and police.
Stop the extra
taxes. National will scrap the ute tax, the expensive income
insurance scheme (job tax), and we will cancel Labour's plan to add
12c per litre of extra fuel tax. We'll reduce brightline test from ten
years to two and bring back interest deductability which has driven up
rents (they're up $180 per week under Labour).
More doctors and
nurses. National will open a third medical school and train
240 extra doctors per year, and bond nurses and midwives in NZ (we pay
off student loans for them to stay in NZ). This all contributes to
more doctors and nurses to look after us, be that in hospitals, local
practises or aged care. Make me your local MP, and I'll keep working
closely with Dr Shane Reti and our local practitioners to deliver more
healthcare closer to home. The hospital might still be in Wellington,
but we can do better locally too.
Achievement in education.
National will get our schools back to teaching the basics
brilliantly, and back into the top ten in the world by 2033. We'll
make all primary schools teach an hour of reading, an hour of writing
and an hour of maths every day, and we'll move all schools to
structured literacy, which is proven to raise the achievement of all
students.
National will build the Ō2NL
expressway. Labour cancelled the expressway to Levin in 2018,
it's been delayed and in doubt ever since. I have no confidence at all
that Labour will ever build a four lane expressway to Levin. The
Greens have ruled out four lanes already and last time they were in
coalition together they cancelled it. Only National will build a four
lane expressway from Ōtaki to the north of Levin, starting
construction as soon as possible but definitely in our first three
years.
Restore law and
order. National will back Police to tackle gangs, with
special new powers and banning patches in public places. We'll bring
back the value of consequence for youth offenders (including boot
camps for the serious young offenders) and we'll bring tougher
sentences for serious violent offenders. This includes bringing back
three strikes.
No co-governance. National
oppose co-governance of public assets. We'll scrap three waters, and
we'll have just one public health system for all Kiwis. We'll repeal
the unworkable RMA reform which adds layers of bureaucracy and
co-governance by stealth, and we'll restore the value of equal
citizenship for all Kiwis.
Sustaining our environment and our
economy. National will double the renewable energy generation
in NZ so we don't have to keep importing coal like Labour. We'll cut
the red tape to get new wind farms, solar and geothermal underway,
doubling our renewable electricity generation with our Electrify NZ
policy. We'll allow safe GE technology so we can cut agricultural
emissions using Kiwi innovation without overly punishing a huge source
of income for our economy. We can improve our economy and our
environment at the same time.
A local MP that will work hard on what
matters to you. You've seen how I work, and you know what I
offer. If you elect me as your local MP, I'll work harder than any
other local candidate. I'm the only one who's consistently turning up
at community groups, businesses and your front door to listen to what
matters to you, and if you make me your next MP I'll keep working hard
for everyone.
