Folks, 

I’ve been trying to get this email drafted to send to you all for hours, but every time I turn back to my laptop another crazy thing has happened.

First House Republicans said they DIDN’T have the votes to pass ANY kind of bill to avoid a shutdown.

Then they sprung a surprise bill full of poison pills on House Democrats.

Democrats asked for time to read the bill (pretty reasonable, to be honest), but McCarthy said no.

Then someone pulled the fire alarm (?!) and now they’ve passed a bill to kick the can down the road another 45 days.

What a mess. We’ll see if it makes it through the Senate, and frankly – for the sake of the more than 70,000 federal employees based here in Washington state (and their families and their communities) – I hope it DOES pass the Senate.

But this is just a temporary fix. The House resolution that just passed only funds the government for another 45 days – which means 6 weeks from now we could be right here again.

This is ridiculous and it’s no way to govern. Frankly we need people in Congress who are ready to take Republicans on with the kind of brass tacks they understand.

I’m running for Congress to get in the fight and shut down this bullshit.
