Dear John,
Roughly every five years, the Farm Bill expires and must be reauthorized. The most recent Farm Bill is from 2018 and expires today. This important legislation is the federal government's primary tool for setting food and agricultural policy.
Congress has yet to draft the 2023 version of the Farm Bill. As the 2018 version expires, Mercy For Animals' president, Leah Garcés, has a message for Congress:
- It is imperative that Congress pass the 2023 Farm Bill and put our nation's food system on a more compassionate, fair, and sustainable trajectory. Mercy For Animals has made its priorities known and is urging Congress to include provisions from the Industrial Agriculture Accountability Act and the Farm System Reform Act. We call on Congress to protect those most at risk through the swift passage of a Farm Bill that serves the dire needs of animals and people.
Congress needs to hear from you. Contact your Congress members and echo Leah's message. Urge them to include these important provisions in the 2023 Farm Bill.
