Hi John.
As you may know, the federal government may shutdown tomorrow. This would prompt widespread, drastic consequences for our economy and hardworking Kansans.
I understand this dysfunction is exactly what makes people so upset with Washington. I am doing everything I can to push for a pragmatic, bipartisan compromise to keep our government open.
My job is to serve every person and corner of our community, regardless of party. It’s especially important for me to listen to you at a time like this, so please click below to begin taking my survey >>

I’ve reached out to Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy with a coalition of representatives from across the nation, to make it clear we’re eager to work with him and keep the government open in a bipartisan way. I’ll keep advocating for Kansans and focus on solutions, and I’m hopeful we can put politics aside.
This cannot be about politics. A shutdown would have real consequences on people’s lives.
It means inexcusable delays to paying our military servicemembers and federal employees. It means interruptions to Social Security benefits. And it means increases in hunger for women and children.
My focus is on keeping the government open and solving the real problems Kansans face. That includes lowering the cost of groceries, gas, and prescription drugs.

Both parties must take immediate action to keep the government open. You can count on me to keep pushing for progress for as long as it takes.
I look forward to hearing from you.
My warmest regards,
Sharice L. Davids Member of Congress
