This gorgeous boy came into care at Helping Paws Rescue through horrific circumstances. He was literally thrown out of a moving car at the intersection of two major highways.
As the car approached a yield sign, Duke was thrown out of one of the windows. He was super skinny, incredibly frail, and had wounds all over his body. Plus, he was covered in scratches and abrasions from sliding on the rough asphalt road. The poor pup was covered in “road rash.”
While Helping Paws Rescue wasn’t aware of Duke’s full backstory, their best guess was that he was used as a “bait dog” in a dogfighting ring. That means, he would have spent all his time chained up and repeatedly attacked by trained fighting dogs.
It’s hard for Duke’s current family to imagine him as ever having been a bait dog. He’s the sweetest boy to every dog, cat, and human he has ever encountered. He even allows the smaller dogs at the rescue to climb on him and use him as a step stool. They love to snuggle up on him like a big, warm bed.
He is the most loyal companion and is up for anything at any time. This includes car rides, golf cart escapades, and enthusiastically playing with his favorite toys! Duke is now happy, healthy and awaiting his forever home in the capable hands of Helping Paws Rescue.
