John,
On Thursday we were honored to welcome former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz) to our campaign office where she spoke to a group of volunteers - getting them energized to go out knocking on doors and talk to voters about important concerns like preventing gun violence.
Gabby survived a 2011 assassination attempt and is now a gun safety advocate and a true inspiration. My own efforts on the issue during my time as a Delegate have earned me the endorsement of Giffords, her political action committee. As a public school teacher who is required to lead my students through active shooter drills, this matter is very personal to me.

“Stopping gun violence takes courage,” said Gabby Giffords. “We must never stop fighting!”
Democrats ushered through a number of bills when they controlled the House of Delegates, the Senate and the governorship in 2020.
This year, a number of bills aimed at gun violence prevention were defeated in the [divided] legislature. Most of them were carried by Democrats — like VanValkenburg’s bill for gun storage requirements that he terms “low hanging fruit”
“The one constant is that when Democrats get elected, we are able to make progress on this issue,” VanValkenburg said.
With all our efforts being obstructed by the Republicans, we must keep the Senate and take back the House to make sure that we can continue to focus on preventing gun violence in our community. Can we count on you to chip in $25 ahead of tonight’s end-of-quarter deadline?
