Hello, Friends —

The people of the United States deserve to be liberated — from $2 trillion deficits, from corrupt politicians who govern by irresponsible continuing resolutions, and from the scourge of omnibus legislation. On Tuesday, I took to the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives with a plan. The only way to reduce our nation's 33 trillion debt is to set a topline balanced budget and appropriate funding to each individual agency of the government accordingly, just like state legislatures do.

I refuse to let my community and my country continue to be insulted by the Uniparty that refuses to end the one-vote-funds-all spending bills. I vow to remain steadfast in my fight to finally put an end to Washington's out-of-control spending habit.

REP. GAETZ REQUESTS HIS PAY BE WITHHELD IN THE CASE OF A GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN

On Tuesday, in light of a possible government shutdown, I sent a letter to House Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Catherine Szpindor requesting to have my pay withheld until the government is funded.

Over the last eight months, I have consistently pushed for the Speaker to keep his January promise and bring individual, single-subject spending bills to the House floor to be voted on with open amendments to avoid a shutdown. However, because this has not happened, the nation is facing a possible expiration of appropriations at midnight on October 1st. Rep. Gaetz has requested his congressional pay to be withheld until Congress does its job to end any such lapse in appropriations.

Full text of my letter to CAO Szpindor can be found here. Additionally, exclusive coverage of my letter by Daily Caller can be found here.

REP. GAETZ: AMERICANS WANT TERM LIMITS

Image

On Thursday, the House Judiciary Committee convened to debate and hold a vote on term limits for members of Congress. In every town across our country, term limits are popular, except in the 202 area code — which belongs to Washington, D.C. In a Congress with term limits in place, the American people are given fresh ideas; their representatives have a stronger connection with their district; and legislative decisions are determined by the people, not lobbyists and special interest groups.

Thursday marked an important first step in achieving term limits for the Legislative Branch. Although the vote failed 17-19, the American People now know who is on their side — and who is not.

REP. GAETZ'S AMENDMENT TO DEFUND PARIS CLIMATE ACCORD PASSES!

On Thursday, I was proud to see my amendment to H.R. 4665, the Department of State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs Appropriations Act, which defunds the Paris Climate Accords, pass the house. H.R. 4665 funds the Department of State and in the past, has provided taxpayer dollars to implement the Paris Climate Accords. My amendment, which passed 219-213, prohibits any funding from being used to fund this international agreement.

U.S. taxpayers should not be funding this globalist, America Last enterprise, which uses climate change as a trojan horse to attack the American economy. I'm proud to have put a hard stop to any funding within H.R. 4665 from going to the Paris Climate Accords.

REP. GAETZ ATTENDS HOUSE JUDICIARY FIELD HEARING ON CRIME IN CHICAGO

On Tuesday, I virtually attended the House Judiciary Committee's field hearing on Chicago's broken justice system. Chicago has turned its streets over to the criminals. When police aren't even allowed to chase the bad guys, it's almost the same as having no law enforcement at all. American cities like Chicago can be saved and are worth saving. The people must start demanding better from their leadership.

COMMUNITY WIN! MAXWELL-GUNTER EROSION RESOLVED

Image

Earlier this year, a resident of Niceville reached out to my office with concerns about growing erosion at the Maxwell-Gunter Recreation Area and hazards to visitors due to the damage. My district team was able to work with Eglin Air Force Base Civil Engineers to bring light to this matter, and in two short months, amazing progress has been made to preserve our shorelines and keep our community safe!

TEAM GAETZ ATTENDS AIR & SPACE FORCE ASSOCIATION'S QUARTERLY SOCIAL

Image

On Thursday, my Director of Military Affairs attended the Air & Space Force Association, Eglin Chapter's Quarterly Social at the Island Resort of Fort Walton Beach. He met with Department of Defense and community leaders and heard from Colonel Christiansen of the 350th Spectrum Warfare Wing about the role of the electromagnetic spectrum in future conflicts. I'd like to thank all of our service members who joined the conversations that will continue the greatness of Florida's First District.

The students nominated represent the very best of our district and the entire country. This year, I will nominate up to ten individuals for each vacant academy slot allotted to our district. To request a military academy nomination from our office, please click here and complete the form. Submissions are due by Friday, October 13th. If you have not submitted your printed form, please do so to my district office as soon as possible!

Gaetz trying to 'force discipline' on federal budgeting process

"'We need single subject spending bills, we need to negotiate those in a bipartisan way in divided government in order to get them into law, but that will ensure that we have at least a fair paradigm in which to put downward pressure on spending,' Gaetz said Monday."

Republicans send letter to Jake Sullivan demanding 'total figures' for Ukraine aid

"Sen. JD Vance, along with Reps. Chip Roy, and Matt Gaetz, said the letter – first obtained by Fox News Digital – comes following a White House briefing last week when Sullivan stated that the Biden administration had sent around $79.9 billion in aid to Ukraine since the war started in February 2022. However, a week earlier, the White House Office of Management and Budget gave Vance's office a chart showing at least $101 billion spent, with plans for additional spending."

General Who Floated Assigning Officers Based On LGBT Laws 'Said Some Things She Should Not Have,' Air Force Chief Says

"Republican Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz said he believed Biden chose Colorado as SPACECOM's permanent headquarters to punish Alabama for its abortion laws and Republican Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville's holds on officer promotions."

Daywatch: Republicans in US House hold hearing on Chicago violence

"No Democrats attended and GOP panel members posed questions, such as one from Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz, asking, 'Is Chicago savable? Or, is the city in such a downward trajectory that our only hope is to make sure that these policies don't spread to other places? I don't believe that the answer to these questions comes out of Washington. But I do think hearings like this are really important because, you know, we want to get a sense of what some of the early warning signs are in a community like Chicago, so that the challenges you face don't metastasize,' said Gaetz."
