John,
I write to you today with a heavy heart. Like all of you, this morning I woke to the tragic news of Dianne Feinstein’s passing. My deepest condolences go out to her family and loved ones.
Senator Feinstein will always be a legend in California’s and our nation’s history. As the longest serving female Senator, she was a trailblazer who broke the glass ceiling and paved the way for women like me in government. She fought not only for Californians, but for a safer, stronger and more just nation.
She passed historic legislation to ban assault weapons and protect our environment. She took on the toughest of fights when it came to protecting our national security. And those are only a few of her many achievements over her remarkable tenure on the Senate.
She has left an indelible impact on our country, and I am so lucky to have known her.
She was truly the “lioness” of the Senate. This is a monumental day of loss for California and the nation.
