John,
After a police officer killed Michael Brown, I took to the streets for over 400 days as part of the Ferguson Uprising. That multiracial movement was a pivotal point in the centuries-long struggle for Black liberation in our country, and it transformed what we thought was possible for our communities.
I bring that transformative vision to my service in Congress, where I’ve introduced groundbreaking policies to heal the harms of generations of anti-Black criminalization and police violence, and invest in the resources Black communities need after centuries of exploitation and disinvestment.
The first Black woman to serve Missouri in Congress, I’ve personally experienced systemic racism in education, healthcare, housing, the workplace, and at the hands (and boots) of police. I don’t want anyone else to have to go through what I’ve gone through. That’s why I lead with love for all.
I don’t take any money from corporate PACs, making sure our movement for transformative change is people-powered. And right now we’re up against the urgent end of the quarter fundraising deadline. To return to Congress and continue to be the bold leader our communities need, we have to demonstrate our power now.
Can you make an urgent donation before the end-of-quarter deadline so I can keep leading in Congress to dismantle white supremacy and build an antiracist society that works for all of us?

Growing up in St. Louis, I lived through a malicious drug war that saw Black people disproportionately arrested for possession, even though usage rates for drugs like marijuana are similar.
I saw Black renters disproportionately vulnerable to eviction, and I know the policy violence of being forced out on the streets and of living out of my car with my two babies.
As a nurse and a patient with traumatic birthing experiences, I’ve seen how Black women die every day because our healthcare system denies our humanity. And while serving people with mental health crises and substance use disorders, I witnessed punitive responses that criminalized and harmed vulnerable people.
These lived experiences fuel my urgency and bold leadership in Congress.
That’s why I’ve led on preventing evictions and passing expansive policies, such as the Drug Policy Reform Act, which would end criminal penalties for drug use and replace them with health-centered approaches. The bill would also expunge existing records and eliminate many of the life-long consequences associated with drug arrests and convictions: the denial of employment, housing, public benefits, drivers’ licenses, and voting rights.
I’ve also led policies like the People’s Response Act, which would invest in public health alternatives to policing and transform our racist systems of “public safety” to center care and compassion rather than criminalization and punishment.
I’m continuing the push for reparations for the descendants of enslaved Black people who built this country’s wealth. And I’m championing the Equal Rights Amendment, which is an essential tool to achieve reproductive justice and eliminate wealth and health gaps rooted in racism and misogyny.
Together, we have the power to bring about the change our lives depend on. But to stand up to the powerful perpetrators of injustice, we need financial support.
Tomorrow night marks an urgent end-of-quarter fundraising deadline. Can you donate TODAY to help grow our movement for collective liberation?
Thank you and with love,
Cori
