Help shape our $50 million program to support affordable housing near transit
The Washington State Legislature appropriated $50 million to the Department of Commerce to support transit-oriented affordable housing development. Half of the funds are made available by a donation from the Amazon Housing Equity Fund.
Commerce is now gathering public input on the proposed design of this new transit-oriented development funding program. Key points include:
- Transit locations are being defined as proximate to existing stations in operation. Future stations with a Record of Decision or under construction can be accepted.
- Housing projects in the development pipeline will be prioritized, including those requesting state funds in 2021 and 2022 and those with applications submitted in 2023.
- Standard Housing Trust Fund (HTF) policies concerning funding levels, prioritization for the most vulnerable populations, and compliance with the Evergreen Sustainable Design Standard (ESDS) will be maintained.
- Standard HTF underwriting guidelines will be utilized, as established in the HTF Handbook
- Emphasis is placed on permanent housing (as opposed to transitional housing or shelter)
