This is a historic moment, John.
For the first time ever, workers at the Big 3 auto companies — Ford, Stellantis, and General Motors — are on strike simultaneously. As of this email, 43 plants are currently on strike — with 7,000 more workers joining the picket line today in Chicago and Lansing. And if the Big 3 do not meet the United Auto Workers Union’s demands for fair wages, job security, and dignified working conditions, you can expect more will follow.
But the fossil fuel companies and Trump want to pit auto workers against electric vehicles (EVs) and climate activists and prey on the insecurities of workers in the EV transition.
We know that we are stronger together. That’s why we signed an open letter, along with 120+ climate and social justice organizations, to call on the CEOs at the Big 3 to meet all of UAW’s demands and ensure a just transition to clean energy. But that is only just the beginning.
This Sunday, October 1 at 6pm ET/3pm PT, we are joining together for a mass call with some of the biggest climate and environmental groups including Sunrise, Greenpeace, Sierra Club, and more to show our solidarity with the UAW workers on strike. Will you join us?

The transition to electric vehicles is critical for the future of our planet, and holds an opportunity to revive manufacturing jobs in America — but we must ensure that this transition to a renewable energy future is not used as a race to the bottom to further exploit workers.
We must put the CEOs of the Big 3 on notice: Corporate greed and shareholder profits must never again be put before safe, good-paying union jobs, clean air and water, and a liveable future.
That’s why we are joining together this Sunday for a mass solidarity call, where we will hear from movement organizers, strategists, and UAW special guests on how we can take action in support of UAW workers and ensure the transition to electric vehicles is socially and economically just.
Will you stand up and stand with UAW workers on strike? Then join us this Sunday, October 1 at 6pm ET/3pm PT for the UAW Solidarity Mass Acton call.
With love and solidarity,
Working Families Party
P.S. UAW workers are on the picket line 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and need our support. Click here to join a picket line near you.
