John,
This morning, California Senator and trailblazing political figure Diane Feinstein passed away at the age of 90.
On behalf of the entire team at Our Revolution, we offer our deepest condolences to Senator Feinstein’s family, friends, and loved ones.
After becoming the first female mayor of San Francisco in 1978, Feinstein would become California’s first female Senator in 1992. Her career in the Senate was defined by action on key issues, including gun violence prevention, a re-authorization of the Violence Against Women Act, environmental protection, and championing LGBTQ+ equality.
California has lost a political giant — but the work of legislating on behalf of the people does not stop.
In 2021, when asked if he would nominate a Black woman to fill Diane Feinstein’s seat, Governor Gavin Newsom said, “The answer is yes.”
We’re calling on Governor Newsom to fulfill his promise and appoint Barbara Lee to the US Senate in California. Barbara Lee is the most experienced and effective legislator. She has the support of the Congressional Black Caucus and the leadership of the Congressional Progressive Caucus. The progressive movement is also behind Barbara Lee. The choice is clear.
Honoring the legacy of a trailblazing political giant like Diane Feinstein means appointing an effective legislator to keep up the fight — NOT a caretaker.
That’s why we’re asking you to sign on today and join us in calling for Governor Newsom to appoint Barbara Lee to the US Senate in California.
Thank you,
Our Revolution
