We've been trying to negotiate... Washington, D.C. - I spent the week working with my colleagues in D.C. to try and negotiate a solution to reasonably reduce spending and avert a government shutdown. As always, I welcome you to share your opinions with me. On Tuesday, I had the opportunity to welcome Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso to the Capitol! After my Ways and Means trip to Ecuador earlier this year, we continued our conversation on how we can support our regional partners by unleashing and exporting American energy and strategies to combat China’s dangerous influence in the region. Later, I met with North Texas members of the National Stone, Sand, and Gravel Association. We had a productive discussion about the red tape making it harder and more expensive for the construction industry to address our infrastructure needs and how I'm working to get the federal government out of the way. On Wednesday, I joined the House Committee on Ways & Means for an executive session over the political interference in the investigation of Hunter Biden. The American people deserve to know the truth about the Biden family influence peddling scheme and I'm fighting to increase transparency. Later that night, I presided over debate on measures to CUT wasteful spending. I’m working to restore fiscal responsibility, rein in inflation, and get our country on track. Texas-24 Work of the Week I'm excited to share this week my bill, the HSA Modernization Act of 2023, was passed out of the House Committee on Ways and Means! Health Savings Accounts provide Americans a way to afford essential medical care but unnecessary red tape gets in the way of them utilizing their savings. I'm taking proactive steps to solve our healthcare affordability crisis by making common sense changes to ensure families and their individual health care needs are put back in the driver’s seat! Texas-24 Hometown Hero This week’s Texas-24 Hometown Hero is Ryan Martin, a former University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) wrestler and national champion, who has spent the last 25 years with Grapevine-Colleyville ISD. Congratulations, Ryan, on your induction into the UCO’s Athletics Hall of Fame! We appreciate all the work you do to help North Texas students. TX-24 Veteran Commendation The Congressional Veteran Commendation has been created to honor the distinguished veterans around the country and in TX24 and to preserve their stories for future generations of Americans.
