Project Update:
Restoring Native Trout in Quartz Lake

Fisheries Crew Working on Quartz Lake

The Glacier Conservancy is proud to support Glacier National Park's efforts to mitigate the impact of invasive fish species on the native populations of westslope cutthroat and bull trout in order to preserve and protect native aquatic habitats.

We recently visited the fisheries staff to see this work firsthand.

Outdoors for Everyone

We're excited to partner with the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation on their "Outdoors for Everyone" initiative to make the outdoors accessible for people living with paralysis.

As part of this initiative, the Reeve Foundation’s highly trained Information Specialists are helping educate those in the paralysis community about accessible parks.

Pika Science Update

The Daily Inter Lake recently featured an exciting GNPC-funded project to learn more about Glacier's pika population by extracting DNA from pika scat.

Pika genetic diversity will be assessed to understand the population's resiliency in the face of changing conditions. The study's results will be crucial for informing future conservation efforts.

Headwaters Podcast Awarded by NPS

Season 2 of the Headwaters Podcast, covering the park's efforts to save the threatened whitebark pine, was given a Freeman Tilden Award for Interpretation by the National Park Service.

The Freeman Tilden Awards are the highest interpretation awards presented to a National Park Service individual or team to recognize outstanding contributions to the profession of interpretation.

Glacier Book Club:
The Civilian Conservation Corps in GNP with author David Butler

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), one of the most successful of all New Deal programs, was heavily involved in creating and improving the infrastructure of Glacier National Park. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt visited in August 1934 and gave one of his famous radio “fireside chats” from the park, in which he praised the efforts of the CCC in helping improve the country’s national parks. Chapters examine CCC camp life, the nature of the work carried out by the CCC boys, structures built in the park by the CCC, and FDR’s visit.
