Hi Team,

Last night, we were called to the House floor to vote on spending bills to avoid a government shutdown. Unfortunately, extremists in the House are using government funding bills to hold Congress hostage, threatening a government shutdown as early as Sunday.

There is still time to avoid a shutdown, which would be irresponsible and cause so much uncertainty for the American people. I am not giving up and will continue to work and do everything possible to avoid a government shutdown.

This looming shutdown is just the latest example of the dysfunction, uncertainty, and harm being done by a very small, but extreme group of elected officials and former president Trump, who is pushing for a shutdown with the hopes that President Biden “will be blamed.” 

The American people deserve so much more than these political games and posturing. That’s why next year, we need to come together to make sure Democrats win big at the ballot box and we stop extremists from holding our nation back.

Tomorrow, I have an important FEC end-of-quarter fundraising deadline. You know I don’t like asking for money,  Friend, but we have important work to do next year, and each quarter, we need to raise the resources to support that work.

I am going to work hard like I always do to turn out voters in MI-06 and in other competitive U.S. House districts so we can help Democrats win up and down the ballot across the country in 2024.
