Dear Friend,
Michigan is defining the future of clean energy, climate action, and advanced manufacturing as we grow our economy and pursue the goals of the MI Healthy Climate Plan.?
During my What?s Next Address last month, I outlined plans to enact a 100% clean energy standard for Michigan that will drive down costs for consumers, reduce our reliance on foreign energy, and create good-paying manufacturing jobs along the way. In the decades ahead, Michigan will be a destination for people seeking safe water, clean air, and a pleasant peninsula or two. That's why I also set out a goal to improve energy efficiency programs in order to drive down costs for families and small businesses and a plan to empower the Michigan Public Service Commission to build clean energy at scale faster.?

We must face climate change head-on and grow the economy at the same time. Building on our heritage as a hub of innovation and progress, we are leading the way in America?s clean energy boom. By 2050, our clean energy proposals will save Michigan families over $5 billion in household energy costs and bring home over $14 billion in federal funding. Investing in clean energy means a lot of jobs, cost savings, and investments in our state.??
This week, we celebrate Clean Energy Week to promote our advancements in renewable energy, sustainability, and environmental initiatives. Clean energy is crucial to making our cities and communities more resilient in the face of climate change. By embracing clean energy solutions, we can improve the health of our state?s natural resources and make progress toward ensuring a brighter future for Michiganders.?
On Tuesday, I announced that Nel Hydrogen chose Plymouth Charter Township as the location for its new automated gigafactory for producing electrolyzer technology for green hydrogen production. The Nel Hydrogen Gigafactory in Plymouth Township will bring 517 jobs and a $400 million investment to Michigan. Earlier this year, I was honored to represent Team Michigan on my economic mission to Norway, which helped us close the deal and bring home this cutting-edge facility. Nel Hydrogen chose Michigan over several other states and nations because of our skilled workforce, strong network of universities, and world-leading mobility industry. Together, we?re building on our leadership in cars, chips, and clean energy and showing the world that Michigan is the place to be. ?
Last July, I signed a series of bills that helped move along the MI Healthy Climate goals. These bills will help more communities unleash innovative clean energy resources, provide vital energy assistance to help families stay warm in winter, and create good-paying, high-skilled jobs right here in Michigan.??
As we move forward, Michigan will continue to be a leader in defining the future of clean energy and climate action. Together we can secure a brighter, healthier future for Michigan, where clean energy powers our homes, our industries, and our dreams. We will take this on with the same spirit of innovation and determination that has defined our great state for generations.?
?Let?s work together and get it done.?
Sincerely,
Gretchen Whitmer?
Governor?
