John,
Activists in Georgia have been protesting “Cop City,” a massive training center for militarizing police. For exercising their constitutional rights, protesters have been charged with domestic terrorism—and one nonviolent activist known as Tortuguita was murdered by police.
Rep. Cori Bush and I are some of the few national political leaders calling for justice for Tortuguita and condemning this extreme police overreach, which is an unconstitutional attempt to silence dissent that violates our First Amendment rights.
Cori and I have experienced police violence against protesters marching in defense of Black lives in Ferguson and Detroit. We understand that spending more on police budgets doesn’t keep our communities safe. In fact, it keeps Black and brown communities in fear of regular harassment and violence.
So Cori and I are carrying forward the grassroots call to overhaul our criminal legal system. In Congress, we’re championing legislation to build true public safety by investing in the basic needs of our communities, funding public health alternatives to policing, expanding our civil rights laws, and more.
Please chip in $5 or more today so Cori Bush and I can keep pushing for bold policy solutions to police violence and keep fighting back against dangerous attacks on our right to protest.

John,
Rep. Rashida Tlaib and I are speaking out about attacks on our right to protest, which we’re seeing escalate with a shocking crackdown on #StopCopCity activists.
In recent months, Georgia officials have charged over 100 nonviolent activists with domestic terrorism and racketeering. And a SWAT team violently arrested people who’d been acting within their rights to coordinate a bail fund.
This is massive government overreach to silence dissent and criminalize protest. We cannot allow it.
But Rashida Tlaib and I are some of the only national lawmakers speaking out about this. We’re calling for accountability and justice for Tortuguita, the #StopCopCity activist who was murdered by police. And we’re defending activists’ First Amendment rights to free speech and assembly.
We also need to overhaul our systems of public safety, because there shouldn’t be more money going toward militarizing the police in the first place (which is the plan for Cop City). In Congress, Rashida and I are leading the push for policy solutions to keep our communities safe from police violence.
Please split a donation between Rashida Tlaib’s campaign and mine today so we can keep urgently defending our rights and pushing for true public safety.

Thank you so much. We keep each other safe.
With love,
Rep. Cori Bush
