We’re still short of our goal ahead of the FEC deadline tomorrow, but before I ask you to give, I thought you deserved an honest explanation for why this is such an important moment for my reelection.

After this FEC deadline, our fundraising numbers go public. The gun lobby, corporate super PACs, and Republicans will rush to take a look and start assessing whether it's worth taking us on or not.

If we fail to show that we’re taking this race seriously, they could put a target on me and try to force Democrats to spend tens of millions of dollars defending this seat and the Senate majority.

So that’s why posting a strong number is so important. And even better if we can do it with contributions from A LOT of people.
