John,

This month, the prime minister has decided to delay climate targets and green light Rosebank. The Green Party has been working hard to fight back against the climate criminals. Scroll down to find out more about what's going on at the party and how you can get involved 🔽

Caroline Lucas’s trenchant criticism of the decision to give Rosebank the green light dominated headlines earlier this week. In a Guardian article, she set out why the decision was a morally obscene, climate crime, whilst highlighting on BBC News that Keir Starmer had the power to stop the development and was “utterly irresponsible” in not doing so.

Rishi Sunak’s announcement on delaying plans to meet net zero is a “dangerous and desperate” ploy that will harm the planet, economy, and people’s wellbeing. Co-leader Carla Denyer told BBC Breakfast that his motivation was winning votes from climate doubters but at the expense of higher emissions, spiralling fuel bills and fewer Green jobs.

Co-leader Adrian Ramsay called on the Prime Minster to sack the Home Secretary after she made a “horrifying” speech stating that persecution for being gay should not qualify for refugee protection. Suella Braverman’s comments would not look out of place “on a far-right conspiracy website” and should have no place in a fair and compassionate society, he said.

Green peers Jenny Jones and Natalie Bennett played a leading role in the House of Lords voting down government plans to axe pollution controls on housebuilders. Jenny Jones said the Conservatives wanted to change the rules to attract donations from housing developers, by introducing last minutes amendments that had not gone through proper parliamentary scrutiny.

It is vital services for vulnerable residents are protected following the bankruptcy of Birmingham city council. Councillor Julien Pritchard leader of the Green Party group blamed the Labour administration’s mismanagement for the crisis, as well as central Government cutbacks. He said solutions must tackle the appalling housing conditions and cost of living crisis.

Congratulations to London Assembly Member Caroline Russell for securing funding for more toilets on London Underground. The London Assembly unanimously passed a motion to include funding for toilets in Transport for London’s budget, after a long running campaign by Caroline highlighting the problems caused by “loo deserts” especially for older and disabled people.

It has been a brilliant month for Team Carla with a barnstorming performance on Radio 4’s Any Questions where the co-leader talked about the risks of Raac concrete in schools, the cabinet reshuffle and misogyny in Spanish football. All four target candidates met in London to record the upcoming party-political broadcast and discuss election strategy.

Our four GE target candidates Carla Denyer, Adrian Ramsay, Sian Berry and Ellie Chowns.

Help get our skilled and passionate Green leaders ready to win in the next General Election by joining upcoming action days:

💚Brighton Action Weekend to elect Sian Berry, 21-22 October

Join us on Saturday 21 October and Sunday 22 October for an inspiring weekend of action with Sian Berry, the Green candidate for Brighton Pavilion.

💚Bristol Action Weekend to elect Carla Denyer, 21-22 October

At the start of the year we won a local by-election to make us the largest party in Bristol for the first time. Join us for our national action weekend in October - we guarantee good food and fun at our Saturday evening social!

💚 Waveney Valley Action Weekend to elect Adrian Ramsay, 21-22 October
Sunak thinks his U-turn on the climate is popular. Help prove him wrong by helping elect Adrian Ramsay MP in the Tory heartland of the Waveney Valley constituency on our national action weekend -  21 and 22 October. Beautiful countryside, the company of like-minded people and a chance to fight back at last.

A huge well done to both Caroline Lucas and Jenny Jones for scooping awards at the inaugural Political Purpose awards. Caroline won a lifetime achievement award for her “unwavering commitment to environmental causes” while Jenny was the winner in the Pollution, Waste and Air category for introducing Ella’s law, a bill to improve air quality. The awards were organised by environmental group, Nature 2030.
