Today, 7,000 more UAW members answered the call to Stand Up and strike for economic justice at the Big Three.
Ford and General Motors failed to make substantial progress in bargaining this week, so our members are taking action at two plants:
- Local 551 members at Ford’s Chicago Assembly Plant walked off the job at 11 a.m. Central Time.
- Local 602 members at Lansing Delta Township also struck at Noon Eastern. (Our members at Lansing Regional Stamping are at the ready, but did NOT go on strike.)
We did NOT call on any additional members at Stellantis to go on strike.
Moments before President Fain went on Facebook Live today at 10 a.m., Stellantis made significant progress. They moved on our proposal to restore the 2009 COLA, the right to not cross a picket line, as well as the right to strike over product commitments, plant closures, and outsourcing moratoriums.
We are excited about the progress at Stellantis and our national negotiators are working hard to maintain the momentum.
Our Stand Up strategy continues to put pressure on all three companies. And the strength of our solidarity is putting us on a path to win the record contracts we have all earned.
In solidarity,
The UAW Organizing Team
