How to move forward from this weekend’s mass shootings.

We have an urgent human rights crisis on our own soil, John. Take action to end gun violence now.

John,

This past weekend was very heavy for me and for our country: six mass shootings, including in El Paso, Dayton and Chicago that only underscore the crisis of gun violence we face here in the United States of America. Everyday across the country, firearm-related deaths and injuries violate people’s right to live safe from gun violence, yet never make the news.

Everyone has the human right to live in safety, whether they are going to the mall or walking down the street in their neighborhood. We see regular mass shootings in this country — and yet there is still no meaningful reform to address this crisis.

John, I cannot sit here and do nothing any longer. If you feel the same way, too — join me in taking action to ask the Senate to pass universal background checks for the sale of every gun in our country.

Simply put, there are too many guns, insufficient laws to keep track of them all and to keep them out of the wrong hands, and a relentless reality of violence. This is not about mental health or videogames — this is about a lack of reforms on the federal, state and local levels to protect everyone’s safety.

Take the first step with me now: ask your Senator to pass legislation requiring background checks for the sale of every gun.

President Trump will stop at nothing to distract us from what really needs to happen with his rhetoric, demonizing communities of color and individuals who suffer from mental health challenges. We urgently need human rights-centered reform that will prevent and end gun violence.

You and I know what really needs to be done. Don’t hesitate: send a letter to your Senator now to take action on gun violence.
