John,
In order to appease the most far-right members of his caucus, Speaker Kevin McCarthy keeps adding poison pills to the stopgap spending bill being voted on in the House today.
At the same time, the Senate will be voting on their own continuing resolution (CR) where there have also been calls to add provisions that are hostile to immigrant communities.
Write to your senators and representative right now and demand they pass a clean CR that does not gut funding for critical human needs and does not harm immigrants seeking asylum within our borders.
SIGN & SEND
Right now, the House is preparing to vote on a stopgap spending bill that cuts human needs services by at least 30%, including a 36% cut to housing programs for low-income families.1
The attacks on immigrants, which both bodies are considering, includes:2
-
Jailing and deporting unaccompanied children
-
Jailing immigrant families seeking asylum
-
Ending asylum as we know it at our southern border
-
Restarting Trump’s “Remain in Mexico” policy, but making it even worse by including unaccompanied children
-
Gutting humanitarian aid programs including legal services, trauma-informed care, and community-based services
-
Building Trump’s border wall
We are just 36 hours away from a shutdown. Quickly send a message to your members of Congress and demand a clean CR that does not harm vulnerable communities.
Thank you for taking urgent action to prevent a government shutdown, which would harm millions of low-income families as well as hundreds of thousands of government workers, many of whom already live paycheck to paycheck.
