John,

In a matter of hours, the government will shut down — all because Republicans in the House would rather play cruel political games with Americans' lives than govern.

During the coming GOP shutdown, millions across the nation will face interruptions in critical programs and services they rely on every day, including 7 million people on nutrition assistance. In Maine, it could mean delays in essential services, impacting our veterans, seniors, and families, including:

  • More than 13,000 federal workers will likely be furloughed or would work without pay
  • Roughly 5,800 service members could miss their paychecks
  • Over 18,000 women and children could lose food assistance
  • Acadia National Park would close, affecting local businesses during the peak fall tourist season

It's unconscionable that right-wing extremists in Congress are hell-bent on closing the government and ripping food out of the mouths of low-income children rather than actually trying to make our country better for all people — and GOP leadership won't do anything about it.

This is what happens when Republicans are in charge — but it doesn't have to be this way. We have the power to stand against this by holding our seat and regaining Democratic control of Congress.

We're facing our biggest FEC fundraising deadline of the year — right before the GOP government shutdown goes into effect on Saturday night — and we need your help to raise another $10,000 from grassroots donors to keep us on track.

Will you chip in whatever you can right now to stand against this chaos and support our reelection campaign?
