Dear NY14 Neighbors,
Please see below guidance from our colleagues at the National Weather Service and New York City Emergency Management:
What: Flash Flood Warning
Where: Manhattan, Queens , Brooklyn
When: Until 12:30 PM on 9/29
Hazards: Heavy rain of 2 to 5 inches have fallen, 1 to 3 inches additional expected, and rates up to 2.5in/hour will cause flooding in the city, including highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other poor drainage areas and low-lying spots. Significant flash flooding is likely.
Preparedness Actions:
- Move to higher ground NOW. If you are in a basement, move to the highest floor possible.
- Do not drive your car into areas where the water covers the roadway. The water depth may be too great to allow your car to cross safely. Move to higher ground.
- If you lose power and have a disability, access and functional needs, or use life-sustaining equipment (LSE) and need immediate assistance, dial 911.
- Residential oil tanks in flooded basements may leak or rupture. If you suspect an oil spill in your home, call the NYSDEC Spill Hotline at (800) 457-7362. For more information on home heating oil spills, visit http://www.dec.ny.gov/chemical/8428.html#response or call 311.
