John,

The second GOP presidential debate was hosted Wednesday evening at the Reagan
Library in California, and I believe it strengthened my argument about why I
think Americans would be better served by a different format than these forums
that are just filled with soundbite performances.

I spoke about this briefly this week:

It's hard to believe how quickly it's approaching, but in January 2024 - just
4 months from now - voters in Iowa and New Hampshire will caucus and vote for
their preferred GOP candidate for president.

The GOP has been adrift for years now, seemingly without any comprehensive
plan, and I believe that the candidate who can articulate a common sense,
conservative policy agenda and hopeful vision has a real chance to break
through.

The Republican party appears to be in the grip of negative populism that it
just can't shake. Republican leaders must learn to express their policy ideas
in aspirational ways that bring courage and optimism to American families that
are hurting and fearful. I spoke about this on Thursday:

If you look at the chaos happening in Washington D.C. with this week's federal
budget deadline, it's more clear than ever how important it is for the
Republican party to articulate a clear vision to the American people that
addresses the issues that impact most Americans.

When I ran for public office, the Republican party was my vehicle, but never
my master. While today's GOP is drawn toward the uncompromising radical wing, I
am a conservative Republican and will continue to articulate a policy agenda
that Americans can unify around.Your ongoing support is appreciated as we work
to get our leaders working together again for the American people
