“At least 42 people were killed and dozens more injured in southwestern
Pakistan Friday when a suspected suicide bomb blast ripped through a religious
procession, police and local media say. The attack near a mosque in Mastung, a
volatile district in Baluchistan province, targeted a rally of Muslim devotees
marking the birthday of the Prophet Mohammad, witnesses said. Pakistani
Interior Minister Sarfaraz Ahmed Bugti condemned the deadly violence against
innocent devotees, saying that “terrorists have no faith or religion." No group
immediately claimed responsibility for the violence in a district where
militants linked to a regional affiliate of the Islamic State terrorist group,
Islamic State-Khorasan, or IS-K, are active.”

“The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has said that the killing of
Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar remains an ongoing investigation.
Nijjar, a designated terrorist, was killed in June in Surrey in Canada's
British Columbia province. He was the chief of the Khalistan Commando Force
(KTF), which is also a designated terrorist organisation. Nijjar's killing is
the central to the worsening of the India-Canada relations. Last week, Canadian
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau claimed that there were "credible allegations of
a potential link" between the Indian government and the death of Nijjar. India
has forcefully rejected the allegation.”

The Express Tribune: Afghan Taliban Arrest 200 Terrorists After Chitral Attack
<[link removed]>
““Our delegation recently visited (Kabul) and they were informed about the
arrests,” Jilani told a news conference here when he was asked to confirm
reports that the Afghan Taliban arrested around 200 terrorists of the banned
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). He, however, would not say if those arrested
were Pakistani nationals. “We want the Afghan Taliban to proceed against them
according to the law,” he replied to another question about the possible
extradition of the detained terrorists. The Afghan Taliban informed the
Pakistani delegation, which recently visited Kabul, about the arrest of the TTP
terrorists for their involvement in the Chitral attack. However, this was the
first time the top Pakistani diplomat confirmed the development and the first
such instance when the Afghan Taliban took action against the TTP.”

Washington Times: ‘Almost Insurmountable’ Task: Africa Emerges As Unstable Hot
Spot For Terror, Coups
<[link removed]>
“The toxic cocktail of terrorism and political instability sweeping across
Africa is reaching a new peak, and hope for the tide to turn is hitting a new
low. Analysts say the U.S. and its partners are rapidly running out of viable
options to stop what has been described as a raging wildfire of Islamic
extremism moving through Africa’s Sahel region and elsewhere. A rash of
military coups that have upended weak central governments, such as the recent
upheaval in Niger, have worsened a dysfunctional situation. Adding to the
powder keg, Western forces are cutting back while Russia’s Wagner Group
mercenary army and other foreign actors are expanding their reach. One of the
Wagner Group’s stated aims is to help government forces contain the terrorist
outfits operating with near impunity in some areas, but its fighters reportedly
have launched raids on civilian noncombatants and, in some cases, used
kidnapping and torture as tools of the trade. Such brutal actions deepen local
resentment toward governments and their hired-gun Russian partners, fueling
more political instability and creating an even bigger power vacuum that
Islamic State and al Qaeda affiliates rush in to exploit.”
