Game and Fish publishes special Wyoming Wildlife?issue about mule deer

The award-winning?Wyoming Wildlife?magazine is proud to announce a September special issue on mule deer. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department?s flagship publication educates readers on the challenges mule deer face and the department?s immense efforts to improve their overall numbers. Wyoming Wildlife Taskforce releases final report

The Wyoming Wildlife Taskforce released its final report summarizing 17 recommendations concerning the state?s top-priority wildlife issues. The report details the processes, methodology and logic the Taskforce used to develop its recommendations. ?The Taskforce did not shy away from license allocations, resident vs. nonresident issues and bonus points. Its recommendations are a result of public input and meaningful deliberation. The final report carries weight and is important for game managers, members of the legislature and sportspersons to read and consider,??Governor Mark Gordon said.

Increase in sage-grouse lek attendance observed

Sage-grouse lek attendance saw an increase according to data from the Wyoming Game and Fish Department lek counts this spring. In 2023, lek attendance increased 15 percent compared to last year. The appearance of more birds at leks is thought to be due to the natural population cycles of sage-grouse combined with good moisture that benefited habitat.

Game and Fish honors stewards of the land

For nearly 30 years the Wyoming Game and Fish Department has recognized landowners throughout the state who have demonstrated outstanding wildlife management and implemented habitat improvement and conservation techniques on their properties with the landowner of the year awards. These stewards of the land open access to research and recreation on thousands of acres across Wyoming and, more importantly, maintain habitat for wildlife. Seven landowners were recognized as the 2023 landowners of the year by Game and Fish.
