Less than a month after the racially motivated assault weapon mass shooting in Jacksonville, Democrats have taken action to end gun violence. Last Friday, President Biden announced the creation of the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention led by Vice President Kamala Harris. Meanwhile, Florida's Governor DeSantis has vetoed millions in federal funding for community gun violence prevention programs and signed a permitless carry bill into law. While so-called ‘law and order’ Republicans have only made it easier for criminals to get guns and terrorize our streets, Democrats have stepped up to protect our communities.
Local Democrat, Richard Leonard's op-ed highlighting Governor DeSantis' contribution to the illegal trafficking of firearms to Haiti has been published! Read how DeSantis' failure to combat illegal gun trafficking from South Florida to Haiti is fueling gang violence and chaos in Haiti. DeSantis focuses on immigration at the U.S.-Mexico border, even though the violence is partially caused by weapons originating from Florida.
Democrats in Indian River County are taking action! This week, concerned Democrats attended a private screening of Gabby Giffords Won't Back Down, a film that recounts the tragic deadly shooting at a Congress on Your Corner event hosted by Congresswoman Gabby Giffords and her heroic recovery and commitment to gun violence prevention activism. Attendees went home with multiple calls to action to contribute to the gun violence prevention movement. Learn how you can help to end gun violence HERE.
